A DOT physical is a medical examination required by the U.S. Department of Transportation for individuals who operate commercial vehicles. The purpose of this exam is to ensure that drivers are physically and mentally fit to safely operate a truck, bus, or other commercial vehicle. During the DOT physical, a certified medical examiner checks vital signs, vision, hearing, heart and lung function, blood pressure, and overall physical health. The examiner also reviews medical history and any medications being taken. Once the evaluation is complete, the driver receives a medical certificate that confirms they meet the health standards required to drive commercially.
